GALVESTON--Connors Cowgirls opened the 2020 softball season with a 6-3 victory over Alvin College in the opener of the Galveston Tournament.
In the second game of the tripleheader Connors fell to Blinn College 8-3 and in the night cap against host Galveston, the Cowgirls captured a 9-6 victory to win 2-of-3 on opening day.
Cowgirls will now play a doubleheader on Friday against San Jac at 10 a.m. and Bossier City at 12:30 p.m.
In the opener against Alvin, Cowgirls' Kyzia Whisenhunt singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run in the first inning.
Katy Medlin (1-0) took the win for CSC inside the circle. She allowed five hits and three runs over seven innings striking out three.
Connors collected nine hits against Sydney Moore. Morgan Britt, Kiersten Clark and Kaycee Hanning all collected multiple hits, two each.
Cowgirls tore up the base paths as two players stole two bases each. Whisenhunt led the thefts with three.
In the second of three games the Cowgirls watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in the 8-3 loss to Blinn.
Blinn scored two runs in the first against Medlin who lasted four innings for CSC allowing nine hits and eight runs, striking out two and walking one. Mikahla Wildcat three the final three innings in relief.
Connors scored two runs on two home runs. A homer by Haley Castle in the fourth and a Braxton round tripper in the third inning.
Kasey led the Connors hitting attack two hits as the Cowgirls managed just five hits in the game.
Against Galveston, the Cowgirls snatched the lead late in the contest snapping a 6-6 tie in the sixth inning when Whisenhunt double on a 3-1 count scoring a run.
Whisenhunt led the assault by driving home four runs as she went 3-for-4 at the plate. Whisenhunt drove in runs on a home run in the third and a double in the sixth
Mikahla (1-0) got the win in the circle, going seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out two and did not walk a batter.
Whisenhunt, Morgan Britt and Braxton all collected multiple hits for the Cowgirls
