Cowboys Sweep Southwestern Christian

Warner- When the Connors State Cowboys met the Southwestern Christian University Eagles JV 10 days ago, they won 118-39. The two teams played again Monday night and the Cowboys were victorious once again, 106-76.

There were several factors that were different in the two games according to head coach Bill Muse.

"We had a couple of guys out sick tonight so that hurt our depth at point guard and we didn't play real good defense," he said. "They also brought in some of their varsity players tonight and that made a difference. I was pleased with our offense, but we've got to work on not letting opponents drive to the basket and overhelping on defense and leaving players open for the 3."

Connors (5-0) had four players in double figures, three of them with over 20 points, to pace the offensive effort. Hutchinson Community College transfer Tony Green Jr. lit it up for the Cowboys in the first half scoring all 28 of his game-high total including six 3-pointers. Sophomore Bradyn Hubbard put in 25 for the Cowboys and freshman Khamani Cooper added 21 to the total while Saiyd Burnside, working his way back from a leg injury, put in 12 points.

Connors jumped out to a fast start and led by 18 at halftime 52-34. But the Eagles scored seven unanswered points to start the second half and cut the Cowboy lead to 11 at 52-41 before Muse called a timeout. From that point on Connors played with more intensity and opened the lead back up to win by 30 and stay undefeated on the season.

The Cowboys have a quick turnaround as they travel to Oklahoma City tomorrow night to take on Mid-America Christian at 7:00pm
