Cowboys Take Command Late for Win against Oklahoma Wesleyan

Warner, OK- It wasn't pretty but it was a win as the Connors State Cowboys took control in the final 10 minutes to score an 84-71 victory over the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles JV Monday night at Melvin Self Fieldhouse to go to 8-1 on the season.

Neither team led by more than three points through the first 30 minutes and the Cowboys struggled mightily in the first half committing 12 turnovers and hitting just 3-of-7 free throws to own a 39-38 lead. The second half was much better with freshmen Kevin Stubblefield, Ethan Dietz and Edwin Daniel having big production as the Cowboys scored 45 points in the half while cutting down on turnovers and improving slightly from the charity line going 7-of-11. After opening a three point lead with just under 10 minutes to play, the Cowboys outscored the Eagles 28-18 the rest of the way to secure the win.

"I thought we were really sloppy on both ends of the court tonight, but we got through the game and came away with the win," said Cowboys head coach Bill Muse.

Daniel, the 6-9 center from New York City, led all scorers with 28 points before fouling out late in the game. He was dominant in the paint and on the boards for Connors. Dietz had 12 of his 14 points in the second half and Stubblefield added nine of his 20 points to the scoring in the second half.

The Eagles played well for a JV team giving the Cowboys all they wanted before wearing down late in the game. Isaac Stanak was their leading scorer with 20 points. Wesleyan kept the game close by hitting eight three-pointers for the game compared to just two for the Cowboys.
